Ideally situated in the centre of Maureillas, just 5 minutes drive from the ever popular Ceret, with its famous Saturday market. Perpignan can be reached in half an hour. The beautiful Mediterranean beaches of Argeles and cosmopolitan Collioure, with their fantastic beach-side restaurants and galleries are 20 minutes away. Spain's stunning Costa Brava coastline is just a half hour drive. The famous Dali museum in the charming town of Figures is only 20 minutes by car. Maureillas itself is a lively, typically Catalan village nestling in the foothills of the Pyrenees, where you will find all amenities. It's just a 2 minute walk to the traditional bakeries. The grocers and butchers are also just as convenient.

Cost - 700 euros per calendar month plus electric and water bills. There is currently no land line phone or ADSL. This can be installed, but at tenant's expense.

Property details

Entered via a central, shady courtyard and large french doors, the house is newly renovated to a high standard and is fully furnished. It has a large open plan kitchen, sociable dining and lounge area. Satellite TV (Sky free channels) is installed.

The luxury modern kitchen has a built-in dish washer and range cooker. There is a fridge and separate small freezer and microwave. The peaceful and sunny garden with outside dining table, chairs and BBQ, all shaded by a large mature fig tree, is accessed from the dining and lounge areas. The town canal runs around the garden, young children will need supervision. From the dining area a stair-case takes you upstairs to the modern and comfortable bedroom accommodation. Bed1 has a double bed and en-suite shower room. Bed2 is double size with twin beds. Bed 3 is a large room with a kingsize bed, these rooms share a spacious family bathroom. (Bed arrangements can be changed if required.)

Outdoor dining furniture and BBQ are provided. The garden is south facing, private and has been planted out in Mediterranean style.

Local information

Nearest beaches are Argeles sur mer, around 20 minutes by car. Racou is probably the most family friendly. Collioure is 25 minutes and more sophisticated and artistic. The Costa Brava is around a half hour drive away, Roses being the largest resort nearest the property. Further away via Girona, Calella de Palafrugell is a superb resort, very highly recommended, takes just over an hour by car. Ski stations eg. Les Angles approx 1 hour 30 mins away. Nearest airport is Perpignan, 40 minutes drive. Girona is 50 minutes and has handy shuttle bus service (frogbus). Car hire is recommended. Carcassonne is around 1 and a half hours away. Barcelona about the same. TGV from St Pancras to Perpignan (change at Lille or Paris).

Distances

Ceret approx 5 mins. Perpignan approx 20 mins.

Le Boulou approx 2 miles. 30 mins to the coast. There are many fascinating historic villages and towns nearby. The Cathar Castles are between 30 and 60 minutes away. There is a popular fresh water lake at St Jean plat de cours, a 5 minute drive away.

Further details

Within the village of Maureillas there are 3 bakeries, 2 grocers, a butchers, chemists, newsagents, 2 bars, 1 restaurant and a takeaway. A wider selection of shops and restaurants can be found 5 minutes away at Ceret (has excellent, popular Saturday french market), Le Boulou and Le Perthus, where you will also find the banks. Nearest good sized supermarkets are in Ceret or Le Boulou.

The property is for sale, but is currently available for 4 month let, which may be extendable.

There is a separate house in the same grounds which the property owners may use for occasional short breaks. This house is also available to who-ever lets the main house should they wish to use it for visiting friends or family at no extra cost.
