The games are properly organised and modest trophies and medals can be won across various events.

You don't have to be an experienced darts player  -  participating is more important than winning.

Dog Racing


 

Do you own a dog in the SIGHT HOUND group, for example Greyhound, Whippet, Afghan,Saluki etc., if so why not come and see what this club could offer you and your pet.

The dogs race on an open field course and/or on a circuit, at club level, no gambling, drugs, mistreatment or other nasties, it is just for fun. All the dogs are pets and thoroughly enjoy the day out. If you wish to take it further there are competitions but even at these the most you will win is a bottle of wine or a cup, NO MONEY.

The club has members from England, France, Ireland & Switzerland so its a good place to practice or perfect your French, the dogs though all seem to speak the same language.

Old dogs are never “ got rid of “ but just retire and stay with their owners and come to the club meetings for a day out with old friends.

Traditional French Music and Dance

 

Lessons every two weeks, dances throughout the year - come and join! . . . .

 

What is traditional French folk music and dance?

 

Many of you will have seen the nice ladies and gentlemen at the Fetes in their flowery dresses and waistcoats performing a colourful display - but this is very much a historical reenactment of folk dancing at the beginning of the last century.

 

What we do is very much more up to date - and fancy dress is not required!


The membership fees for Cadanse Folk are as follows:

  • Adult = 40 Euros per year;

  • Couples = 60 Euros per year.

The membership fee covers the hire of the hall, expenses for bands and dance teachers and subsidises the various events which are organised throughout the year - good value!

Steve is a veteran racing cyclist currently living and racing in France. Cycling is his life, it shapes just about everything he does, and when people ask him what he does, he normally says that "I am a cyclist". He has some racing success over the years, but that’s not because he is a talented athlete. In fact when he was tested at college while studying sports physiology he was told that he would never amount to much as a sportsman.

Just an ordinary bloke, who works hard on his bike. He writes in the hope that he might inspire others to become cyclists. There really is nothing else that compares for Steve.

3rd Belgian Beer Festival
in
Faubourg du Moustier, Châteauponsac
 
 Hello everyone,
 
Just to let you all know that the 3rd Belgian Beer Festival is coming up!

The date is:  Sunday, August 15th in Faubourg du Moustier, Châteauponsac. 

Many of the best Belgian beers will be available for tasting and for sale such as:

Bush, Duvel, Gouden Carolus, Gueuze, Kriek, Maredsous, Palm, Rodenbach, St.- Aubert, Tripel Karmeliet, double and triple Westmalle. 

 
This  festival is an all day event, starting at 9:00 am, when the "beer boutique" will open its doors. 

The "buvette" will open more or less towards the end of the morning.  There is no entrance fee.  All beers will be sold at the boutique for €2.50 and at the buvette for €3.00.  The barbecue will start around  twelve-noon - authentic Belgian "frites" will be available.  

 
There will also be an Historical Exhibition, Vide-Greniers,  Barbecue, Raffles,  Games,Competition between French and Belgian teams and  of course Music! 
 
The direction to the Moustier will be sign posted from the town center of Châteauponsac.

By acting as a link between individuals and Animals Charities/Associations we hope to fill a need of communication. 

How and where to get things done, and if we don’t have the answers, then as the saying goes “we shall find a person who does”.

There is a very big problem out there which won’t go away overnight, and everyone wants to help somehow. By pulling together we may find some solutions.

New Spring/Summer collection by local artist Steve Barker is now being shown

 

at the Domaine de la Roseraie, Brantome.

( From direction Mareuil or Nontron, take the road to Brantome at the roundabout and the Domaine is up the hill on your right, before Aldi. From Thiviers/Bourdeilles, pass Aldi and the Domaine is up the hill on your left before the roundabout!)

 

The main theme of the exhibition is emotions and has been inspired by the artist’s love of black and white photography.

 

Feel free to go along and  browse at your leisure.

 

The bar at the Roseraie is now open again, and food and snacks will be available from 4th June.

We are situated in picturesque Abjat-sur-Bandiat, next to the XIV century church of St.Andrew, which forms part of "La Legende de Fargeas", a story of love and sacrifice.

On arrival, you will see our cobbled terrace area, which is ideally situated to catch the midday and afternoon sun. It is a great place to sit and relax.

 

You then enter a typically French bar, which offers a wide selection of spirits, wines and good draft beer, like Kronenbourg and 1664.

 

After the first bar is the banqueting and dance hall with bar number two and open stage going into the newly refurbished stylish restaurant.

 

Our menu is both French and English offering a variety of cuisine from prawn cocktail or large gambas to escalope de foie gras poelee avec poire and magret de canard to filet steak and chips. Locally we have a good reputation for food, especially our fish in beer batter and chips as we have installed a professional frying system for fish.

 

Our menu du jour is a starter, main course  and desert inc wine for 12.50€.


We are open every day and evening during the summer except Wednesday after 2 PM .

The Charente Limousine Exchange was initially founded in 2003 and we meet to exchange news, views, ideas and information.

 

We concentrate on improving the provision of French language courses, sharing experience, skills and knowledge between members, providing information to members on living and working in France and working with

the local community to tackle practical issues relating to the rise in non-French nationals within the region.

“Connect for Friendship”

The group is the brain child of Dutch couple Frans and Toke Verschuren, who, when thy  moved to the town nearly 18 months ago, struggled at first to find much of the information they needed to establish them in their new life.


The aim is to set up an International English speaking group helping newcomers and established people in the town of St Yrieix and its surrounding villages.

 

Apart from the British, it is hoped that local French and Dutch people will be joining too, enabling everyone to benefit from an exchange of language and culture.

 

The general monthly "meetings" will initially take the form of a casual drop in for coffee and a chat and will be driven by "user demand".

 

From this a range of activities will be developed to cater for the varying and individual interests of the group.

Owing to its increasing popularity and ever increasing attendance, the Connect for friendship association (Connectff) has now affiliated with Familles Rurales within the local area and will therefore now meet at a new venue.

We will be holding monthly meetings, probably in Perigueux because that is about the most central place in the Dordogne but we would be open to maybe having it in other areas to allow access to more members.
 

We would like to have guest speakers and hopefully arrange clinics and workshops that you could attend if it was an area that captured your interest.

We believe that it will be a fantastic opportunity to network, exchange information and ideas and gain support. 

Sometimes here in France one can feel a bit isolated and it is nice to know that there are others around you who have overcome a problem that you might be having.

A GEM to Help Depression


Those who suffer from depression know only too well the desperate feeling of isolation the illness can bring.

 

The self help group (GEM) has been set up to help those with mental health problems to meet others in similar situations and share problems and experiences.
 

The P.R.I.S.M. association. (Prevention, reintegration, information in mental health), chaired by the doctor Emile Roger Lombertie, has a branch of GEM in Limoges and Saint-Junien, and building on the success of these groups will be opening a new session.

In partnership with the C.H. Esquirol and the UNAFAM (national Union of the friends and the family of psychic patients), GEM has been set up to help those who suffer from psychological troubles and offer them ideas on ways to break the isolation.

 

The group provide ideas and strategies to help members to overcome the day to day difficulties brought about by their illness.


It is believed around a quarter of the population of Limousin seek help from psychiatrist services or have psychological problems at some time in their lives.

CANCER SUPPORT IN FRANCE

 

CSF provides an information and listening service for Anglophones affected by cancer, and currently has branches covering 5 Departments in France with three more in the pipeline.

 

They offer support through visits at home or in hospital, guide clients and their carers to other sources of advice and help, and provide access to written information about cancer and its treatment.

 

 

Fund Raising Events:

 

We are looking for help towards the printing costs involved in producing leaflets and brochures outlining the support we offer to people and for the printing of posters and flyers to advertise fund raising events.

We offer introductory, conversion and Private Pilot's Licence (PPL) courses provided by our own English lady Flying Instructor who is fully approved by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civile (DGAC) to conduct English-language training in the UK and France.  Sue is also a CAA authorised Flight examiner and Ground School examiner. So, in short, you can take all of your exams in English with Sue in France.

Wood Turning – Tuition and Courses

 

Beginners courses and Intermediate and beyond………

 

We live and work in the Dordogne, South West France. Set midway between Angoulême, capital of the Charente and Périgueux the capital of the Dordogne, and, in our humble opinion, one of the most beautiful parts of France.


The setting of my atelier “l’ame du bois” is spectacular with uninterrupted panoramic views and an abundance of wild life. We are in the flight path of the Grue(cranes) and, you can see these massive flocks of migrating birds in early Spring going North to the Baltic and late autumn going South to Spain for the Winter. We are also with buzzards, kites and other birds of prey. Red squirrels, deer and sanglier (wild boar) occasionally make their presence known.

 

All courses are informal, hands on, one-to-one and aimed at your particular interests for you, the student. The pace of the course is to suit you, nobody else.

 

Testing the water- Come and make a bowl


“Testing the water” is designed for those who want to satisfy their curiosity and take their first step into wood turning with creating a bowl on the lathe to take away at the end of the session. Just fun !

 

 

Beginners Course for face plate turning - at a pace to suit you

 

On this course attention will be paid to correct tool for the job,  tool sharpening,  different turning techniques , choosing woods, finishes etc after which  you will go away with a sound understanding of wood turning and you can expect to make items such as a bowl, platter or a hollow form or all if time permits.

 

Intermediate and Beyond


As with all other courses, this course is structured to individual needs and aimed at those that have a sound understanding of basic practices and principles but wish to aspire to projects that require a greater level of skill. Natural edge bowls, green/wet turning, hollow forms, bowls, platters, natural edge vases are some of the things that can be built into the course.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Specialist - Large Diameter and wall sculptures


This course is for the experienced turner wanting to make a large turning and most probably has not got the facilities in their own atelier.

 

 

 

 

 

All courses are non-residential, but accommodation can be found near by, B&B, Chamber d’hote, hotel or campsite. A detailed list can of accommodation can be emailed to you or why not look at the Holiday Section on this web site.
